Valerio Musilli was born and raised in Rome and at the age of twenty-three he moved to Milan to work on sets as assistant director. He has always been a sports fan as a practitioner and spectator. When he started making his first works it was absolutely natural to focus on one of his “obsessions”: cycling. He has made video and photographic content for some brands in the sector and has participated in two Giri d’Italia for one of the main sponsors, narrating the race from the point of view of people at the roadside. In fact, what he loves most is hearing people tell their stories firsthand because it is the fastest way to get chills on his back.
About ‘Alké ‘ – words by Valerio Musilli:
Alké’s video was born from my proposal. I met Laura, one of the founders of the brand, and I immediately understood that there was a beautiful story to tell. Alké is an exclusively women’s football clothing brand, it is not only a technical clothing company, it has a much deeper character and identity that carry a message of emancipation by also supporting projects in favor of women’s rights. Despite the international popularity that women’s football has lately been, in Italy there is still a lot of cultural discrimination in seeing women play football. I wondered how much courage and willpower a young girl who dreams of being able to play at the highest levels could have and I immediately thought that Lisa – fourteen year old captain of the AC Milan youth team- would be the perfect character to convey our message. I wanted her to tell her love for this sport and her experience in this world firsthand, and she was immediately happy to do so. The result is a portrait shot in Barona, the district of Milan where Lisa was born and began to cultivate her dream, which we hope will soon become reality. For her and for all women who want to play football.
