Miuccia Prada, along with her experimental fashion alter ego, Miu Miu, has long been a duo dedicated to dissecting and exploring every facet of the female experience. The duality of Ms. Prada—as both a fashion designer and a sociologist with a deep passion for art—has consistently manifested in cultural initiatives committed to understanding and portraying the complexities of womanhood.

Miu Miu will make its official entry into the art world this October with a collaboration at Art Basel Paris, serving as this year’s Public Program Official Partner. The brand’s experimental exhibition, “Tales & Tellers,” will interlace narratives on womanhood through a blend of film, installation, and performance, offering a new outlet to replicate stories thought and told by women.

Held at Palais d’Iéna, headquarters of France’s Economic, Social and Environmental Council—and the long-standing site of Miu Miu runway shows, “Tales & Tellers” was conceived by interdisciplinary artist Goshka Macuga and curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose, Director of MACBA, Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona.

In “Tales & Tellers,” narratives converge in a multidimensional exploration of memory and storytelling. Drawing from Miu Miu’s Women’s Tales film series and artistic interventions from runway shows since the SS 2022, each piece is personified by a character who embodies and preserves these stories.

These figures are brought to life by actors alongside video projections of the original works, acting as custodians of the narrative, offering live, fragmented retellings that blur the line between past and present. The exhibition transforms the Palais d’Iéna into a living space of real and imagined intertwined experiences, where the audience and performers engage in an evolving dialogue on womanhood and identity.

In a time when the sociopolitical landscape increasingly defines our daily lives and shapes history and the future, Goshka Macuga’s practice emerges as a powerful voice. In collaboration with curator Elvira Dyangani Ose, she will transform the Palais d’Iéna into a space for dialogue through performance and conversation during “Tales & Tellers”.

Macuga’s practice, which interrogates historiography, political systems, and contemporary issues, will fully align with Miu Miu’s vision when her artistic intervention accompanies the SS 2025 runway show on October 1, 2024, creating a profound intersection of fashion and critical thought.

“Tales & Tellers” is open to the public from 16th-20th October 2024, with a preview on October 15th. Online registration for exhibition guided tours and panel conversations will be available on miumiu.com from October 3.
