The Memory of Beauty is a short film directed by Luiza and Raquel Vale, captured through the nostalgic lens of Super 8mm film. It delves into the transformative journey exploring the evolution of beauty’s perception across the ever-changing landscape of life. During the piece, the protagonist’s view is impacted by the unfolding influence of the exterior world, society, and lasting memories that corrupt her worldview and the definition of what she understands as beauty. Curiosity is lost and dreams are broken by little acts around. As the story is told, a mother and grandma bring different contrasts to a search for something that was once heard and never seen. A memory that still lingers. What once was seen and felt as beauty is left hidden with our inner child. This short film took on a new meaning when Luiza and Raquel’s grandma died during post-production. A woman who influenced their perspective and view of the world. Someone whose beauty and love will never be forgotten.
