About I’ve Loved Some of These People – words by Tagger Yancey:

In my twenties, I was young, queer, living in New York City, and looking for love. More than that, I was looking for myself. I was searching unfamiliar faces for a familiar feeling. Each face I photographed became a line, a paragraph, a chapter in my diary. Some relationships lasted while most died in the light of day.

Vulnerability is difficult. In the intimate moment of photographing, we are both vulnerable, subject and photographer. This vulnerability has connected me to others. I’ve photographed these moments as a reminder to be open and seen.

I’ve Loved Some of These People is a state of mind. It is an expression of change, the closing of a chapter, the foundation for growth. As a collection of memories, it is my desire to love and be loved.

While I don’t believe you ever truly find yourself, I do believe it is the searching that counts. That search brought friends and lovers into my life who have changed and shaped the person I’ve become. I’m indebted to the people and places in these images. These memories have put me on a path to self-love, and I discover more to love about myself with every new memory.
