So Close When You Look Away is a visual study of love inspired by the book A Lover’s Discourse by Roland Barthes. In this project, I recreated the fragmented moments within a relationship that showcases the complexity of love. Love is powerful, yet intricate and fragile at a certain stage. Being a sensitive person within a romantic relationship could be overwhelming, constantly living in the complication of supposing oneself simultaneously being loved and abandoned. Sensitivity, fragility, and a sense of distance could possibly all exist within an intimate relationship. Love is like a pendulum that swings between pleasure and pain.
