Roman Spataro is a 22 year-old photographer and artist from rural Pennsylvania, now living in New York City. Having grown up in a town of only 800 people, his perspective is largely shaped by nature, solitude, and wanderlust.

About Dead Fish, Footprints – words by Roman Spataro:

“shadows growing longer above a dusty windowsill
memories of family quietly evoked by a plastic lawn chair
in the wind from the seashore, there arrives a comfort not understood
a dead fish in the sand is able to offer perspective
so much has changed, yet somehow this remains the same
tall grass and wildflowers sway in the warm, gentle wind
anxiety dissipates into humidity
the sun’s heat, once unescapable, now an escape
love gradually fills the blue sky
though far away, childhood is held safely in a wooden chest
the old beach road, compressed by years before me
footprints in cold sand give shape to my spirit
clothes from the day before are still hung over the sand-break
back roads and hidden paths grant access to distant memories,
though discourage the possibility of new ones
red dirt under the tires
rust a slightly deeper orange
in the fleeting moments between night and day, there’s found
a glimpse of understanding, some perception of fragility restored”
