Riky Kiwy is an italian photographer born in the beginning of the 80s. Since the year 2005, he has been reporting the trainwriters world, taking pictures of the actions, the ambiance and the actors of the graffiti scene. In 2015, he self-published his first book « Un train peut en cacher un autre » which presented ten years of photo reporting.
During the last years, he has also dedicated himself to other projects in collaboration with the photographer Ama Split and one of their last creations is a photozine about the similarities between Berlin and Warsaw called « Berlin-Warszawa- Express ».
Riky Kiwy still continues to document and report trainwriting and in November 2017, he has self-published a new release called « Down in a hole » which includes pictures taken between 2015 and 2017. It’s a black & white analog project developed around a concept that can be seen in different ways: the hole.
About ‘DOWN IN A HOLE ‘:
It’s not easy to imagine how the world of graffiti and trainwriters is when you are outside of all of it, when you are not inside « the hole ». Because being a trainwriter is like living in a hole. That is what Riky Kiwy wants to show through his photozine. His pictures are dark, cold and raw like in a deep hole.
But don’t misunderstand the meaning, this hole is not a bad place. It’s just another dimension, a place far from the everyday life where graffiti writers can hide and feel good like an animal in its den.
