Ocean Farini Carpet Stairs 08

About ‘ Maybe we can get carpet on the stairs this year?’:

Mum empties the receipts and loose change out of the pockets of Dad’s trousers into the palm of her hand. She shouts through to the front room with a laugh, ‘If we save all this change, maybe we can get carpet on the stairs this year!’

At number 18, the churning sound of Mum hoovering is balanced by the lung-like breathing of Dads melodeon. Masculinity comes in the form of squishy, vulnerable, comfortable bodies; tangible and hair covered. We rub our bellies together and share each mornings bath water. Through my photographs, I hope to encourage you to find the joy in every follicle, every ounce of the tragic comedy of ordinary life; it’s all right in front of you.
