This year, MIA Photo Fair returns to Milan with its 15th edition with a renewed sense of fluidity. Now in its 15th edition, the fair continues to position itself as a key moment for contemporary photography in Italy, increasingly opening up to international voices and cross-disciplinary practices.
Framed by the theme Metamorphosis, the 2026 edition reflects on transformation as a condition inherent to photography itself. Across the fair, the medium reveals its shifting nature: from analog processes to digital experimentation, from traditional print to expanded forms that include publishing, installation, and hybrid image-making.
What emerges is a landscape in transition. Alongside established galleries, younger and independent voices bring a fresh, research-driven approach, often blurring the line between photography and other disciplines. Artist books, archival materials, and mixed media works appear with growing frequency, reinforcing a broader understanding of what photography can be today.
Beyond the booths, the fair extends into a wider cultural conversation. Talks, special projects, and the city-wide OFF program activate Milan as a network of exhibitions and encounters, connecting institutions, publishers, and creative communities. It is within this expanded framework that MIA moves beyond its commercial dimension, becoming a space for reflection on the role of images in contemporary culture.
In this sense, the 2026 edition is less about defining photography and more about observing it in motion. Between tradition and experimentation, materiality and concept, MIA Photo Fair continues to evolve, mirroring the very transformations it sets out to explore.
