Kristen Bartley is a photographer and writer originally from Texas now residing in Brooklyn, NY. She makes autobiographical work largely influenced by her experience growing up gay in the Bible Belt and the untimely deaths of her parents.

Thank you for teaching me that there will always be something bigger than myself out there, I still have much to learn.
Dear Mom, is an ongoing project I started in order to grapple with the sudden loss of my mother and to deeper understand our relationship which at times was strained due to her devout religious beliefs. Over time it has also evolved to include my own journey of self-discovery of who I am without her.
