JOV unveils a significant evolution for Sussurro, the rug collection designed by Rotterdam-based designer Laurids Gallée. The main highlight is the introduction of Lumpy Space Bordeaux, a new colourway that expands the existing range through a softer, more nuanced palette of layered pink tones developed on a neutral base.

Inspired by the ever-shifting nature of clouds, the collection uses colour as a medium of perception. The design strategically plays with pile heights: while the cloud motifs, crafted from New Zealand wool, reach up to 70 mm in the lightest areas, darker tones feature a lower pile. This contrast accentuates volume and tactile depth, allowing the organic forms to emerge with greater prominence.

“It was less about changing direction and more about fine-tuning,” explains Laurids Gallée. “I continue to be interested in the interplay between light and dark and all the nuances in between. With JOV, we explored these subtleties, giving the clouds a new sense of depth and lightness”.

Each rug is hand-tufted in JOV’s atelier in Portugal, using natural materials such as Merino wool and mercerised cotton, which provides a subtle sheen to the surface. In addition to the new Bordeaux tones, the collection remains available in its original Blue, Beige, and Dark Brown variations.

The launch is accompanied by an intimate photographic project set within Gallée’s studio. These images offer a glimpse into the collection’s development, creating a quiet dialogue between the studio’s atmosphere and the material presence of the work.

Founded in 2001, JOV is a Belgian brand creating bespoke hand-tufted rugs designed as tactile architectural elements. Laurids Gallée, featured on the AD100 list and named Emerging Designer of the Year by ELLE Decor, continues his research into unexpected shapes and materials through this collaboration, merging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary manufacturing processes.
