About ‘SVETLOYAR’:

Since the twelfth centry many legends and myths have developed about the lake Svetloyar (russ. the Luminous), which is located in northern Russia. According to the legend, the settlement Kitzeh with strong believers sank during a Mongolian attack and has rested in the lake ever since. The legend also goes that only those who are pure in heart and soul will be able to and their way to Kitzeh. Also called the Russian Atlantis,“ Kitzeh offers the opportunity for people to contemplate the supposedly magical powers that are manifested by the ringing of bells or the play of lights.

Jewgenis images follow the visions of the visitors, that had an mystic experience on the place and translate their stories in its own way. The light and its mysterious aura, that is not rationally ascertainable, reflect the spiritual aspect of the surroundings that the protagonists observed many times on the lake. Part of the work/ exhibition is a video and an object.
The experimental short lm takes the viewer inside of the lake and manifest an existed natural microcosm. The object in a frame contains the water from the lake in a test tube as an analogy to the scienti c approach.
