Jesse Salto says about herself:
“Born in Mill Valley, CA in 1983, to a Danish/Swedish mother and a Polish Father, my family quickly moved to England and then France at age 6. I went to High School in Aix-en-Provence and graduated with a french Baccalaureate specialized in visual arts and decided not to continue school and learn on the go. After dropping photography for nearly 7 years while working as a director in commercials, I was missing a creative outlet that was truly an expression of self. I turned back to Photography and have been sharing my time between directing projects and shooting stills for the last 5 years”.
About ‘ On the road’:
As a child of the road it’s always been a familiar place. As a kid I spent countless hours looking out a car window imagining the lives of all those little boxes. Often times feeling more like a home than a home.
With this series I want to convey the feeling of freedom and inspire a fearlessness to live differently. The images act like an extended hand to the world, asking them to go live an adventure in the great outdoors. Careless, untethered but incredibly connected to the people and nature around. Moreover, In this era of censored nakedness, the moments captured are sensual but never sexualized in order to challenge our relationship to nudity as well as to our own bodies and the mental constraints we are taught.
I want the beholder to walk away from the work asking themselves “How free am I?” In hope that it will instill the desire to live their truth, whatever that may be.
