About 11 – words by Jasmine Deporta:

Attempting to describe myself is difficult for me, as I’m not entirely sure what I’m made up of. Intuitively I would say there are things within me that fall and some that rise, some which are coming apart and which are held together.

Jasmine Deporta’s work reflects on her surroundings and relationships and is a personal reflection on longing and identity. Working in the now, along with leaving space for coincidence and being intuitive is part of her workflow, within the aim to preserve her own vision of reality and perpetuate a moment of Zeitgeist.

Deporta likes to play with contrasts. In her work she shifts the emphasis from hidden to more obvious and vice versa. Deporta merges performative gestures, intimate encounters, and everyday symbolism into new scenarios and reveals visual imagery that preserves the raw honesty of the subject. Her pictures are not only necessarily vehicles of meaning but mostly expressions of desire. In ‘11’ Jasmine Deporta is pairing and juxtaposing images and enters them into a dialog of form, color, composition, and content and plays with the imagination and connotation of the viewer. The title of the series is an ode to the 11.11. the day she was born.
