Isla Boy is an ongoing photographic project developed during extended stays on the island of Siargao in the Philippines. Emerging from a personal shift in perspective, the work reflects an encounter between an urban sensibility and a radically different way of inhabiting time and space.
Coming from the pace and structure of city life, the island revealed an alternative rhythm, shaped by nature, movement, and human connection. Days unfold outdoors, guided by the tides and the light, revolving around surfing, fishing, and the quiet rituals of local markets. Life here is less segmented, more fluid, rooted in a strong sense of community where relationships are immediate and deeply felt.
This immersion became the starting point for Isla Boy. Through the lens, the project explores the textures of everyday life: the bond between people and their environment, the physical and cultural presence of surfing, and the subtle dynamics that define island communities. Rather than documenting from a distance, the work engages with its subjects in a way that is both observational and participatory.
Isla Boy is not only a visual record but an exploration of belonging, of how identity can shift when confronted with a different tempo of living. It reflects on the possibility of adaptation, on the quiet transformation that occurs when one steps outside familiar structures and begins to see through another rhythm.
