“Before Marrakech, everything was black. This city taught me what colours are and I embraced its light, its brazen contrasts and its intense inventions.” Yves Saint Laurent
Habibi is my homage to this land, a place that leaves an indelible mark that is difficult to forget; selecting these shots made me relive stories, emotions and experiences that I collected on my last trip. Marrakech shows here its many nuances and fascinating contrasts: the chaotic, narrow streets of the Medina and its souks and the quiet of the terraces overlooking the Atlas Mountains; the warm, enveloping light that covers the whole city in gold and the shades of the sunsets; the mesmerising chaos of the traffic and the silence of the desert on the outskirts of the city. The simplest and most ordinary actions are transformed here into fascinating and exotic experiences; like simply stopping to listen to the powerful call of the muezzin rising above the buzz of the city. The city speaks a mesmerising and magnetic language, constantly transforming its appearance and letting you leave with only the desire to return again and again. Marrakech is not a city to visit. Marrakech is an experience to be lived.

Alessia Morellini (1985) lives and works as a freelance photographer in Modena. Her life is animated by two passions: photography and travel. While attending university, she began as a self-taught photographer to capture the solitary and aseptic scenarios of the Po Valley, and then moved her research beyond the national borders. Fascinated by the everyday and familiar aspect of objects and panoramas that surround her, she then shows a penchant for the decontextualization of details, natural and urban landscapes, allowing them to stand out as alien images. She has collaborated with Repubblica, Image magazine and a various number of digital magazines like: IGNANT, Perimetro, Broad Mag, Selfselfbooks, Allcitiesarebeautiful and Fisheye Mag.
