I work as a lecturer at the University in Paris and coordinate a bachelor’s degree programme in Sustainable Management. I have been interested in contemporary photography for a long time, with a main focus on landscape and environmental photography.
In 2015, I was encouraged by friends to practice photography myself starting with my first photo projects during travels through Asia. I work and live in Paris and Berlin.
About ‘North Lao’:
Guillaume Robin made this photographic project in April 2015 in North Lao between Luang Prabang and Van Vieng during the New Year’s (Pii mai) celebrations, which lasts three days from 14 April to 16 April.
Van Vieng is rather famous for the massive flow of young western backpackers who used to come here a few years ago for tubing and cheap drinks. Trying to fight against the excess of such a mass tourism and to avoid the accidents due to the combination of tubing and alcohol, the authorities decided to limit the development of such activities. The buddhist New year in North Lao gives another image of the country.
For the occasion, Laotian families and friends gather to spread water in the streets and like meeting in spectacular places with natural wonders such as Tad Sae waterfalls. Pic Mai consist of three days of intense social life.
