A brilliantly executed concept where nature, design, fine dining, and history intertwine to create a timeless and truly special place.
There are places that simply stay. They linger in memory, weave themselves into our lived experiences, become part of us. This is how fragments of vision meet our gaze and become indelible marks in the drawer of our emotions. In these places, the breath slows, and the soul finds peace. Non-action becomes the key to fully savouring each moment.
Stepping into Figli dei Fiori in Como feels like entering a suspended time, a space far removed from the repetitive and exhausting daily routine – a gateway to another experience. Here, amongst fragrant flowers and plants that captivate the eye, guests are enveloped in a special embrace. So, is it a flower shop? Two restaurants? Simply put, it is a place to feel good.
“Everyone is amazed by the location – a 1920s greenhouse,” explains Alessia Melis, office manager of Figli dei Fiori. “In Como, we are truly unique. Here, edible flowers take centre stage in our dishes, creating an explosion of colour and beauty. Executive chef Gianni Tancredi has crafted truly special creations.” This mission extends not only to the bistrot, which opened in 2017, but also to the osteria, established two years later. “Our offering is innovative. We use simple ingredients and experiment with curious pairings. We aim to bring something new, but never overly complex,” says Alessia. “This simplicity defines the osteria, where we focus on classic Italian cuisine.”
At the heart of a culinary tradition rooted in history, the Osteria Figli dei Fiori acts as a dreamlike bridge between past and future. A space that celebrates traditional home-style cooking – the flavours of grandmothers and mothers – without merely replicating the past but reinterpreting it with a modern twist. The menu is a perfect balance of authentic flavours and creativity, offering dishes that are simple yet refined. Inside, the interiors evoke a bygone era, with elegant boiserie and wall-mounted trophies that tell the stories of a tradition that has never faded but instead continues to evolve with new details every day. The iron-slab flooring, with its industrial and contemporary design, completes the setting, crafting a unique atmosphere where past and future merge in perfect harmony.
“Everything here is in balance,” says Alessia. “Time passes, and people don’t even notice. The environment is designed to be warm and welcoming. The lighting, the cozy atmosphere, the background playlist – everything here is magical.”
Enchantment is an intricate weave, where every thread finds its rightful place in the world – design, nature, and cuisine, the mother and spark of all pleasures. Thus, boards of exquisite cured meats and cheeses, as well as classic comfort foods, dance upon the table, instantly transporting the mind to family Sundays. Steaming lasagna, braised beef, eggplant parmigiana – a celebration of flavours and emotions that teach us to pause, to embrace the moment, to indulge in the warmth of a truly nourishing experience.
It is in stillness that we find a beauty that is both static and creative – an inertia that touches our sensitivity, sharpens it, allowing us to notice details of a hidden wonder, unseen by those who lack the curious gaze of a child. A child who knows how to run, yes, but also how to pause and marvel at the visual and experiential world unfolding before their bright, eager eyes.
