In Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2024 campaign, the figures lensed by photographer Zoë Ghertner seem to embark on an odyssey to an unspecified destination. Gazing towards the North, with the sun eternally veiling their faces, the ultimate endpoint remains inconsequential–they’re packed with what’s necessary, with no need for identification. Their belongings hold enough of a personal imprint to narrate a hundred life stories, or at the very least, a woman’s.

The beautification of normality and the glorification of rarity is where Miuccia Prada excels. Ordinary to extraordinary. Polo shirts meet mini skirts and men’s bathing slips, intricate embroideries coexist in the same environment of wool V-necks–and throw a sandal for good measure. In October 2023 when Ms. Prada showed the collection on the last day of Paris Fashion Week, models walked the runway to the beat of an apocalyptic soundtrack. Ensembles converging brocade gold skirts with striped t-shirts shone through the proposed storm, trying to explain through absurdity the delights of simplicity–to navigate a storm, easily well-dressed, with ease.

Campaign stars including May Andersen, Emma Corrin, Angel Haze, Lexie Liu, Demi
Singleton and Cailee Spaeny carry the unfiltered confidence of a collection conceived not to reject the decorative, but in the acceptance of oddity and humanity. Mirroring the errors of a life well lived, devoid of complexities. Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection conveys exactly that essense of relying on what’s readily available; a pack-up-and-go spirit. Handbags are stocked with provisions for the everyday: an extra shirt, and swimwear at hand for an impromptu dip. It encapsulates the idealism of the SoCal spirit, yet it also acknowledges its inherent mortality. Miu Miu presents us with styling scenarios that rely on irony to highlight what’s always been ordinary. Alternatively, consider the contents of a mother’s bag.
