David Hares says about himself:
‘I am a London-based photographer with over ten years experience. I specialise in portraiture, reportage and lifestyle photography for advertising, design and editorial clients. My photographs have been used across all media including advertising, corporate branding, magazines and online. I have produced photo libraries for numerous clients including Ahold Delhaize Supermarkets, Heathrow Airport Ltd, Lloyd’s Banking Group and Marylebone Cricket Club. Most of my work is on location but I’m equally happy photographing in a studio. I have worked all over the world for various organisations both alone and with an art director.’
About ‘Tokyo’:
David Hares (b1971) is a UK-based photographer with over 12 years professional experience. He specialises in reportage and lifestyle photography for advertising, design and editorial clients. Before becoming a photographer he worked as a graphic designer.
Tokyo was shot in 2012 over a five days in the city. I was in Japan for a commercial shoot and stayed on to shoot this series of images.
This project was driven from my love of street photography. I wanted to capture the energy of daily life in Tokyo. It’s an amazing city to photograph, rich in culture and visually fascinating.
I visited several areas of the city including the bustling Shibuya pedestrian crossing and the business district of Shinjuku. A 5am start at the Tsukiji fish market, then to the electrical retail district of Akihabara followed by a late night at the Tokyo City Keiba horse racing provided a snapshot of life over 24 hours. I was overwhelmed with choice on what to photograph – the city is consistently vibrant, loud, bright and full of colour.
