In the limbo between consciousness and dreams, ‘Danza per Sonnambuli’ (Dance for Sleepwalkers) takes shape, the new editorial project by photographer Federica Loria, with styling by Alessandro Brombal.
Inspired by Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater, the editorial develops in a dimension of sensitivity. Federica Loria’s images originate from the body, elevating it to the main narrative tool. There are no static poses, the movements appear involuntary, guided by an invisible force. In the dynamic sequences, the human figure seems to defy gravity, conceived in a mental sense. It is a dance that expresses tensions and memories without resorting to words.
Brombal’s styling work acts as a counterpart to this fragility. Dark fabrics, enveloping like shadows, or white and textured, delineate the boundary between the individual and the surrounding void. The body slumped to the ground evokes an inner search that takes place in darkness, where gestures become fragile and deeply human.
The photography uses contrast and movement to suggest a sense of isolation. In some shots, the direct gaze and graphic detail on the skin break the fourth wall of the dream, reminding us how this exploration of the mind always finds a return to the flesh.
“Danza per Sonnambuli” invites us to reflect on what remains of us when the light of reason goes out. It is an invitation to surrender to the darkness of the mind in order to rediscover, through movement, an emotional resonance that words can no longer contain.
