Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek creates authentic, unvarnished images that get to the heart of the matter. He provides an insight into the small worlds people create for themselves – they are self-sufficient microcosms, which serve them as a habitat for like-minded people who indulge in the same passion.
Before setting off on his own path as a photo artist, Gebhart de Koekkoek worked at Magnum Photos, NYC. He has been included in several independent art publications and exhibited throughout Europe, Asia and The United States. His first book The World We Live In got published by art book publisher Kehrer and was honored with the “PDN Photo Annual” award.
In the fall of 2016, the artist experienced a breakthrough with his photographic art project “Jumping Cats”, a documentary of cats which he captured in full flight, which stirred waves across international media. Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek lives and works in Berlin and Vienna.

A Guide for Better Being consists of a series of portraits aimed at making fun of fashion and commercial articles often referred to as “social hacks”. We find unthinkable objects created by human ingenuity that aim to simplify life. And that’s how we find shoe-saving umbrellas, eye funnels, hanging umbrellas and even a multi-purpose toilet roll. Daniel’s research develops in an aesthetic-sociological direction that sees these consumer objects as the mirror of the dominant capitalist culture, which sums up time in money.
