Cavie Project is a Fanzine created by Paolo Coppolella and Milo Mussini to give an editorial life to the photographic work of the same Paolo Coppolella.

A look at a naked and urban world, made up of characters, situations and things, lights and dark corners; guinea pigs every day, to study, understand, or just watch, like collections in hanging windows.A type of photography that does not focus on the spectacular and the special effect but lives with the rhythms of the city, spies in the rooms and steals relentless faces and outlines.

The doubt then arises whether we are the CAVIE that we browse, or the subjects that we look through.

About ‘Cavie project’:

We asked the two young artists what their way of working and their vision of life is.

Question to Paolo: Why do you photograph? Why do you do this kind of photographs?

Photography for me is a vent, I always carry with me the small and reliable compact with which I do what others do with the phone. I have always carefully observed what surrounds me and I decided to print it on film.It is a liberating action, which allows me to breathe, amuse myself and get out of the working dynamics of everyday life. Even shooting with people are quite improvised, I do not prepare the sets.I chat with the models, I read some features and from these start to shoot, trying to steal the moment.

Everything is natural, even the control on the lights is the least invasive and forced as possible. I retract buildings, streets, garbage, people on public transport, stacks of things, by night and by day.And then there is the nude, basically what is more interesting than the shapes of the human body? Lately I’m able to portray even boys and not just girls, usually they are less predisposed to the nude.

Question to Milo: Why did you agree to be part of this project? What is your role in all this?

I accepted the proposal to create this project together because I find it interesting and genuine, and also a way to immerse myself in new contexts. I am a person who observes things and faces, how they move and mix, and we both look at things that are in the background, the protagonists are of little interest to us.

Personally when I walk down the street I do not make good or bad distinctions but I create a sort of game in which I catalog what I see and create associations, right here is the key to my role in CAVIE, starting from Paolo’s shots, which we catalog and select together I create combinations, so that every page the eye jumps obsessively from one particular to another, looking for connections. Our goal in the medium term is to close a cycle of one year, which is equivalent to 6 numbers of the fanzine, with the desire to improve number by number, while maintaining the same format.

The beauty of this collaboration is the total harmony and synergy between the parties. We are two creative people, who observe what is around him; everything starts from passion and wanting to express a little bit of us; we are in harmony with the path we want to follow, on the references and on everything that gravitates around CAVIE project. After that, and fortunately, we both deeply believe in what we are doing.
