Camilla Coppola was born in Carrara in 1996. In 2019 she graduated in Photography from the European Institute of Design in Milan (grade: 110 cum laude). The title of the photographic project that she created for her graduation thesis is: At the roots of mastery (Supervisor: Dr. Angela Madesani). It is the fascination for beauty that drives Camilla to photograph, to tell stories to give to the world. For her, beauty is not an aesthetic factor, but a gaze capable of evoking wonder. She takes from the world what it offers her, because life is generous and gives stories to patient eyes. What interests her are the details of reality, the moments of life, the softness of gestures and expressions. With sensitivity and delicacy he chooses to take breaks, breath from the frenetic rush of the world. White is a color often present in his photographs, it is a promise of freedom, of revelation. It also symbolizes purity and the possibility of everything. Photography allows her to grasp the essence of things and convey existential values in their eternal value.
About ‘Alle radici della maestria’ – words by Camilla Coppola:
Over the centuries, artists have used Carrara marble for their works. They went directly to the quarry to choose it and worked it with their hands. An example for all is that of Michelangelo Buonarroti.
In recent years a lot has changed, machines have replaced manual processing. Furthermore, much of the marble extracted is used for commercial purposes by the world furniture industry, changing the historical premises and the purposes of use of this historical material.
The intent of my project, carried out at the Cooperative Sculptors of Carrara, is to show that the ancient workers have not completely disappeared and that their works can still celebrate existential values in their eternity.
