Here we find the observation of two constant presences: a train and a girl.

Two ordinary elements that define the daily reality of the Japanese landscape, of the city.

The train crosses the urban space, moving along fixed tracks. It is not a symbol or an abstraction, but a structure of iron physically moving between the buildings. Its regular passage punctuates the real time of the city.

The figure of the girl represents the human presence within the environment.

She does not perform for the camera, but simply occupies the space: waiting on the platform, looking out the window, walking along the streets.

Her physical presence defines the scale of things.

Homma’s images record this coexistence directly, without emphasis.

They document the friction of materials, the natural light on metallic surfaces,

and the idle moments of everyday urban life:

normal and beautiful.
