Andrea Basileo says about himself:
“My name is Andrea Basileo and I’m a 26 year old Swiss-Italian photographer. After graduating in a mechanic school I decided to move to an artistic direction, so I traveled to Australia with my first camera, given me by my friends and family right before I left.
There I decided to be a photographer so the next year i started studying at the IED in Milan where I got my photography degree three years later.
A couple of month later, I started working at the Vela Museum in Switzerland where I helped to curate two exhibitions, and I had the opportunity to explore several historical art pieces, mostly sculptures and paintings that had an impact on me.
After that experience, I went to New York to intern in an art studio in Manhattan and living in an environment that the memory itself is still a source of inspiration for me. As a photographer, I have always been engaged with different ways of seeing the world.”
About ‘Moroccan Journey’:
The series ‘Moroccan Journey’ came into fruition during a week-long solo journey in Morocco. Starting in Marrakech, I followed my nomadic whims around Merzouga, at the convergence of the Sahara Desert.
The colors and the landscapes were so picturesque that the photographs came out naturally, so effortlessly that I did not even think to make a project with them until I arrived home.
The cast of characters I discovered there made a deep impression on me. Peering through my lens, I uncovered that their perspective is a visually poetic way of seeing the world.
My favorite aspect of photography is exploring depths and degrees of the human condition, an angle that a camera lens is poised to illuminate, heighten, and most importantly archive.
