I’m Alex, I’m 24 and I was born in Catania, Sicily. I have a degree in Communication Sciences and have been working lately with a strong photography team known as Enkant, composed by hard-working photographers whom passion is vivified by everyday people.
Which inspires me a lot daily. I’ve inherited the traditions of photography expressed through social networks. My first camera was a simple phone camera. I actually started to take pictures in the optic of a better communication with my friends, seeing photography as a way to send stronger messages, overpassing the standard communication of a text message.
About ‘The Great Ship‘:
I consider this work more like a visual experience than a project. The ship has stopped in many places, full of life and stories to tell. We’ve traveled hundreds of miles, stopping from time to time in cities such as Civitavecchia, Genoa, Barcelona, Casablanca, Funchal, Tenerife and finally Malaga.
I could photograph every place visited, but I preferred not to do so because each stop only lasted a few hours. So I decided to try something different by capturing the things that surrounded me with my iPhone camera, on the boat itself. I decided to take pictures of people surrounding me there, people I saw every day and doing the same things, repetitively. On the boat, all the material I needed to take pictures was there. So as the ship was going, I observed the people from all ages and their attitudes, in their actions or passivity.
Besides, a ship so impressively big carries inevitably a great tide of life, looking almost like a city or a small town. A whole sap of life running through this enormous ship, and its music reverberated all through it. I attended and lived people’s achievements and important new life events, families and friends who have sailed the seas in immense castle. And it is through this work that I depict their short and ephemeral story they have lived on this ship for two weeks.
