The work of Adrienn Józan (b. 1988) is characterized by a diarist attitude: she draws the themes of her photo series from her own life. She primarily takes pictures of herself and her immediate surroundings, with recurring themes of identity, kinship, and region-specific circumstances. Her work has been exhibited in several group exhibitions around Europe. In 2019 she received the grant of the Hungarian National Cultural Fund, and in 2020 she was selected for the Fresh Eyes Talent program founded by GUP magazine. She is represented by Frenchman Gallery from Amsterdam.

About Szevasz Lujzi – words by Adrienn Józan:

Her first series includes personal photos, almost like a diary. The photos were taken in and around her childhood home. Adrienn’s aim was to create an introductory work that shows who she is, where she is coming from. The upbeat and playful photos reflect on childhood memories and her relationship to her parents. Home was a secure place to start experimenting with different visual styles and involving others into her practise.

Szevasz is a Hungarian informal, slightly old-fashioned greeting to express “hello” and “goodbye”. Lujzi is her childhood nickname.
