Aren’t we all CoverJunkies: Port Magazine feat Ryan Pfluger

Born and raised New York photographer with a MFA in Photo, Video & Related Media from the School of Visual Arts.  Captivated by nostalgia, my work often deals with recreating memories, memorializing objects and how sexuality influences image making.  Exploring what portraiture means presently in our culture, my photographs deal with the subtlety of body posture, the gaze and the role of self-portraiture.  Most importantly, I allow my subjects to be present.

Port issue 24 is here! Presenting de facto Coolest Man Alive @samuelljackson, shot by @ryanpfluger wearing @louisvuitton SS19.⠀ ⠀ Samuel L Jackson is a rare breed of film star who defines every film he is in, but it is a mantle that belies the personal and social struggle he has faced. ⠀ ⠀ Inimitable and yet chameleonic, Jackson has been a DJ in Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing, a snake-fighting FBI agent in Snakes on a Plane, a bounty hunter in Tarantino’s western The Hateful Eight and the Jedi master Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequels. Now 70, he continues to dominate the big screen as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His success is clear: measured in monetary terms his films have grossed more than those of any other actor in the world. But he has also, as ZZ Packer writes when she met Jackson for Port in Los Angeles, added “depth and complexity to the image of black men,” working to undo racial stereotypes through the sheer volume of his work and his “unapologetically black intensity…a hit job on white sensibilities.” ⠀ ⠀ Issue 24 is available for pre-order now via link in bio
